Planning EngineerJob SummaryThe Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules throughout all phases of engineering and construction. The role ensures alignment between design, procurement, and construction activities to achieve project milestones on time. The Planning Engineer coordinates with project teams, consultants, subcontractors, and authorities to support efficient project execution while minimizing delays and maintaining compliance with contractual requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & SchedulingDevelop and maintain project schedules in accordance with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).Prepare detailed schedules for pre-design, design, tender, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project completion.Ensure project schedules are regularly updated to support effective monitoring, forecasting, and project control.Prepare baseline, recovery, and revised schedules as required.Perform "What-if" scenario analysis to evaluate schedule alternatives and mitigate project risks.Progress Monitoring & ReportingMonitor project progress against approved baseline schedules.Analyze schedule performance using updated progress reports and identify critical issues affecting project delivery.Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, including schedule updates, performance analysis, and forecasts.Monitor critical path activities and recommend corrective actions where necessary.Track project milestones and provide accurate completion forecasts.Resource & Cost PlanningDevelop resource-loaded and cost-loaded project schedules.Prepare manpower, equipment, material, and submittal histograms.Analyze resource utilization and recommend optimization strategies.Support cash flow forecasting and resource planning activities.Coordination & CommunicationCoordinate with Project Managers to update detailed work programs.Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and authorities regarding planning and scheduling matters.Ensure engineering deliverables, procurement activities, and construction requirements remain aligned.Participate in project progress meetings and coordination meetings.Review subcontractor schedules and recommend improvements to ensure compliance with the master schedule.Design & Procurement PlanningMonitor engineering design progress to ensure timely issuance of drawings.Coordinate procurement schedules to ensure material availability aligns with construction requirements.Monitor authority approvals and ensure they do not impact construction progress.Identify potential schedule conflicts between engineering, procurement, and construction activities.Project ControlsPerform schedule analysis using Critical Path Method (CPM).Conduct delay analysis and prepare recovery plans when required.Support earned value analysis, productivity monitoring, and performance measurement.Assist in claims preparation related to schedule impacts.Health, Safety & QualitySupport implementation of HSE initiatives and company Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.Participate in safety meetings and awareness activities.Ensure planning activities comply with company quality standards and project procedures.Required Knowledge & SkillsStrong understanding of engineering and construction planning principles.Proficiency in project scheduling and control techniques.Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6.Knowledge of project planning methodologies, Critical Path Method (CPM), and resource management.Experience preparing resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules.Familiarity with construction sequencing and procurement planning.Knowledge of local and international construction standards.ERP knowledge (preferably SAP).Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and coordination abilities.Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and project interfaces.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.ExperienceMinimum 8 years of overall professional experience.Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in planning and scheduling.Experience in large-scale building or infrastructure projects is an advantage.Core CompetenciesProject Planning & SchedulingPrimavera P6Project ControlsCritical Path Method (CPM)Resource Planning & ManagementCost & Cash Flow AnalysisProject Tracking & ReportingRevenue ForecastingRisk Analysis & MitigationLeadershipCommunication & CoordinationProblem SolvingQuality FocusResilienceAgilitySoftware ProficiencyPrimavera P6 (Advanced)Microsoft Project (preferred)Microsoft Excel (Advanced)SAP ERP (preferred)Microsoft Office Suite
